News that the St Regis in New York is to unveil a Bentley Suite for guests this autumn will rev the heart of car lovers everywhere.

The 1,700 square foot accommodation will feature themed decor including black leather tiled floors and a sleigh bed made of the carmaker’s signature burl wood (which Prof Wikipedia describes as wood from a deformed tree).

In any case, the suite is yours for $9,400 (€7,500) a night or, put another way, around the same price as four Tata Nanos, the cheapest car in the world.

The Indian car maker is worth mentioning because it too has moved into the car-themed hotel suite game, through 51 Buckingham Gate, the group’s London hotel. The Jaguar Suite’s decor was “overseen” by Jaguar’s design director, who probably didn’t have much choice, given that Tata also own Jaguar.

Here it’s all sleek wood panelling plus customised Jaguar wallpaper, ebony doors and a fireplace in the shape of a Jag’s rear window.

If that’s a tad too subtle for the petrolhead in your life, head instead to the V8 Hotel, in Meilenwerk, near Stuttgart, Germany. Here the entire building – a former airport – has been transformed into a 34 bedroomed, car-themed hotel.

For a vintage stay, spend your night in a car wash, a garage, or at the drive-in, with beds made out of cars, terrific motor-related antiques and a massive collection of classic cars in a hangar next door.

When you’ve had enough of that, the Porsche and Mercedes museums are just down the Autobahn. Doubles start at €155 a night – guaranteed to put some vroom in your room.
